What are the ingredients in vapes?
Vapes, also known as e-cigarettes, heat e-liquid to produce vapour. This means when we refer to the ingredients of a vape, what we actually mean are the ingredients of the e-liquid. There are a variety of different ingredients commonly found in vape e-liquids, including but not limited to:
- Propylene glycol (PG)
- Vegetable glycerine (VG)
- Nicotine
- Flavourings
By examining each of these ingredients, we can explore the impact they have on the vaping experience.
What Is PG and VG in e-liquid?
Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine, or PG and VG as they are also known, are substances included in various e-liquids. Many e-liquids will contain both PG and VG. These two vape ingredients partially determine the type of experience an e-liquid will provide, depending on their ratio. Adult smokers looking for a smoke-free alternative that offers a similarly satisfying experience to a cigarette will find that certain PG/VG ratios better suit their tastes.
PG and VG help to dilute the nicotine in e-liquids, but that is not their only use. They are also commonly used in other consumable goods. For example, they are a preservative in many food products.
Nicotine is a substance commonly found in e-liquids. It is important to remember that vapes and other smoke-free products are not risk-free and provide nicotine, which is addictive. Smoke-free products are not alternatives to quitting and are not designed as cessation aids. Therefore, vapes are only worth considering for those adult smokers who would otherwise continue to smoke. The best decision any smoker can make is to quit tobacco and nicotine use altogether.
When a manufacturer adds nicotine to e-liquid, typically one of two types are used. These two different nicotine types are freebase or nicotine salts, otherwise known as nic salts.
Nicotine salts
Found naturally in the leaves of the tobacco plant. The nicotine salts vaping experience offers:
- A smoother throat hit
- Higher levels of nicotine
- Can come at a high-cost
Freebase nicotine
This form of nicotine was the first to be used by e-liquids. It is created by transforming nicotine into a pure substance. The freebase nicotine vaping experience offers:
- A stronger throat hit
- Comparatively lower levels of nicotine
- Is generally lower-cost compared to that of nicotine salts
Flavourings in e-liquids
Flavourings, as the name suggests, give flavour to e-liquids. E-liquids can even consist of various different flavourings, not just one. Among these, there are some classics such as tobacco flavoured e-liquids. However, the range of available flavours within the vaping industry certainly does not end there. Each supplier has their own selection of vaping liquids and a range of available flavours. While some focus on creating an authentic tobacco taste for smokers, others explore unique tastes that are quite different from a cigarette. With such a variety to choose from, there is something to suit every adult smoker’s taste and preferences.
Smoke-free devices – introducing VEEV
VEEV is a modern vape that features the latest in vaping innovation. This device has a closed pod system – changing flavours (or capsules) is easy. To change capsules, just snap and go. With VEEV, no cleaning and no refilling is needed. VEEV uses smart digital controls designed to prevent overheating of the e-liquid, consistently ensuring a significant reduction in the levels of harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes.* It is worth noting that VEEV is not risk-free and e-liquids contain nicotine, an addictive chemical. However, VEEV is a better choice than continuing to smoke cigarettes.
Important information: VEEV is not risk-free.
